A Worship Experience for Children

We are proud to offer Godly Play as a central part of our ministry with children. Godly Play is a Montessori-inspired approach to spiritual formation that invites children to encounter God through story, wonder, and response. You can learn more about this approach at Godly Play Foundation.

At First UMC San Fernando, Godly Play shapes both our church and school life. It is woven into our Sunday morning experience as well as our chapel time at Glenoaks Christian School, creating a consistent and meaningful rhythm of spiritual formation for children across the week.

Children are always welcome to remain with their families in worship. At the same time, they are invited into Godly Play—a space designed especially for them to engage sacred stories in a thoughtful, hands-on, and reflective way.

On the first Sunday of each month, as well as during special celebrations like Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost, we gather for all-ages worship. During these services, elements of Godly Play are incorporated directly into the sanctuary experience, and children are encouraged to remain for the full service as we worship together across generations.

Whether in the classroom or the sanctuary, Godly Play helps children grow in faith by making space for curiosity, reflection, and a deep sense of God’s presence.
